Now I gone and done it - Fantasy!
After being prompted enough, I’ve finally made a fantasy hack of my own game Novas & Nebulae. There are so many fantasy games out there as it is, but there are some things that are less common, so I’ve decided to let this be a bit more opinionated here.
While Novas & Nebulae is flexible enough to easily play space westerns, imperial sci-fi, space operas, etc., it was mainly made to emulate a certain kind of sci-fi a la Classic Traveller.
Eye of Erendor, on the other hand, could do a broad range of fantasy, but I really wanted to go after a more low-fantasy, or at least low-magic, kind of a setting. I didn’t want to give up on the more epic, myth-based kinds of fiction, but I didn’t want magic to ever be too defined or without grave risk. To that end, there are no spellcaster types, only those that are desperate enough to risk learning and performing Solemn Rituals that always come at a cost (mechanical and narrative).
The game is based around 2d6 and never uses more than 3d6 at a time. There are damage systems with and without math involved. Hopefully EoE is quick to pick up and play, cinematic, and conducive to getting lost in the narrative that you and your table craft together.
